July 2010 Snake Avoidance

Today, the members of our Club united together to host our 31st annual snake avoidance training seminar.  This was truly the largest outpouring of Club support at any function other than a Christmas Party.  I was accused of experiencing too much sun and possible heat stroke when I announced that 22 Club members had turned out to help.  I have to apologize, as I was wrong with this count.  After a re-count, we actually had 23 Club members partaking in the running of this event!

Not only were we successful in the number of helpers, we were also successful with a profit of $2,124.90.  In the July heat, 76 dogs went through the de-snaking procedure in record time.  We were packed up and pulling out before 1:15 pm.

Special thanks to Grant Stanfill for his hospitality.  Grant was so gracious to allow us to hold the clinic at his home in Ovilla.   It was an awesome location with plenty of parking and lots of shade.  Grant supplied us with a huge industrial fan which was enjoyed by all who were waiting their turn as well as the resting members.  So Grant, thank you, thank you!  You always take that extra step for the Club and we are all so appreciative!

More thanks to the members who donated items for the cause.  For fear that I might miss someone, I’m going to refrain from actually printing names but with or without your name in print, you are all very much appreciated.  Cold water was in abundance, other donated items… ice, donuts, sausage rolls and the newspaper ads.

Thanks to the members who contacted the sports guys to make announcements about our event.  In fact, Billy Kinder was able to stop by after his morning radio show where he did another pitch for us.  Several people told me they heard about us on Billy’s blog!

Today’s participation was exactly what being in a Club is all about.  I want to personally thank each and every one of you who came out!!  I have been newly inspired by the camaraderie shown today.  Thank you all for re-instilling my faith in our organization!

P.S.  If it makes any of the dogs feel better, one of the snakes died!
